Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed concern about the security and peace management of the upcoming elections.

She reached Rupandehi in Lumbini Province on Saturday to understand the election atmosphere, stressing that the security environment would deteriorate due to clashes between parties on various pretexts.

‘The problems of the districts were also seen here,’ Karki said, ‘Two/three parties in the Terai are a bit more active and effective. Trying to play games between those parties to decide who will win and who will lose and turning into clashes, that is something we now suspect.’

Saying that such clashes could occur between parties, she also instructed the security personnel to prepare for this. ‘It may not happen, it may happen, but we have to be prepared for this,’ Prime Minister Karki said, ‘Now, yesterday, there was also a case of one party burning the flag of the other. Such a thing can happen.  We have to be prepared.’

She mentioned that although some parties have talked about boycotting the elections, they are very weak and are talking about boycotting due to fear of losing the elections.

‘According to my study, there is a group of one, two, four, five people who cannot even contest the elections and are not connected with the people,’ Karki said, ‘You cannot blame everyone. Some people say that they will not contest the elections even if they collect money from extortion, even to show the existence of the party, but after that, nothing can be done. The party remains alive, the money continues to be raised. This kind of trend has been seen.’

‘Someone said that I have done this business, I have done this industry, and I showed it to them from the party, that is how it is seen. But still, we should be cautious about this,’ she added.

Similarly, Prime Minister Karki expressed concern that the Holi festival is approaching and natural problems such as possible snowfall may appear in the Himalayan region, especially in Rukum East.
