There has been criticism over the burning of the UML flag in Tulsipur on Thursday evening by people who were waiting to welcome the President of the National Independent Party, Rabi Lamichhane.
On Friday, Lamichhane was arriving from Surkhet to Ghorahi to address an election rally organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Ghorahi. On Thursday, the UML workers who were waiting to welcome him in Tulsipur burned the UML flag. They shouted slogans against KP Oli and burned the UML flag with the sun. UML Dang has demanded immediate arrest and action against the RSP workers involved in burning the flag. District President Shiva Kumar Acharya issued a statement on Friday demanding immediate action against the culprits of the incident. Similarly, in a statement issued by Lumbini Province Coordinator of the UML-affiliated Youth Association, Santosh Wali, he warned of an agitation if immediate action is not taken against the culprits of the incident. Leaders of other political parties have also condemned the act of burning the flag. They have said that burning the flag of another party and obstructing the election campaign in a multi-party competition is objectionable.
The Youth Association has protested in Ghorahi on Friday against the flag burning. They have submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office while touring the market. They have drawn the attention of the administration to arrest the culprits within 24 hours and take action.
The district president of the National Independent Party, Binay Ghimire, has claimed that the wrong people have been involved in the flag burning. Issuing a statement on Friday, he said that unnecessary people have burnt the flag to defame the party.
