UML decides to deploy 667,000 organized members to their homes

What you should know

UML and CPN (Maoist) have adopted a strategy of ‘moving forward by protecting the 2079 mandate’. In the 2079 elections, UML came second and the then Maoists came third. To protect the previous mandate, these two parties have emphasized on preparing a final strategy, deploying organized members for door-to-door programs, and meeting voters directly rather than holding meetings.

The UML, which led the government before the Gen-G movement, has entered the contest despite its disagreement with the upcoming elections. The UML, which is facing accusations of human losses in the Gen-G movement, has put forward a strategy to save the 2079 BS mandate. UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is returning to Kathmandu on Thursday after leaving the door-to-door program of Jhapa-5 to formulate a strategy for the House of Representatives election. After releasing the party's election manifesto on Thursday, he will return to his own constituency. Upon returning to Kathmandu, he is going to hold a meeting of the central secretariat and formulate the final strategy for the election.

The NCP, which has been adopting a policy of turning left and right in the game of power, is also engaged in an election campaign with the aim of saving the last mandate in this election. NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal is returning to Kathmandu on Thursday after completing door-to-door visits to the remote settlements of his constituency Rukum East. He is also the coordinator of the Central Election Mobilization Committee and is going to return to Kathmandu to formulate the party's final strategy.

The old parties are facing a tough challenge due to the wave of new parties seen in this election for the House of Representatives. UML and NCP are embarking on a final strategy to overcome that challenge. Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Balendra Shah has reached Jhapa-5 to challenge UML Chairman Oli, who has been winning easily in the past. That is why Oli is more focused on his constituency.

UML central office bearers and other candidates are struggling to win the election. For this reason, UML has started an internal campaign to at least protect the old mandate by mobilizing organized members in wards and villages. UML has stated that organized members are working with a campaign to 'go door-to-door and urge their voters to vote in the sun'.

Organized members have been deployed in a campaign to secure their votes this time by identifying families who voted for UML in the 2079 elections. UML says that organized members are 'convincing' voters to protect their votes as UML is being surrounded from all sides. 667,114 renewed their membership at the 11th general convention of UML held in the third week of Mangsir. UML says that each organized member is urging them not to go left or right by meeting at least 50 voters who voted for UML.

‘We are on a campaign to secure our public opinion,’ said Publicity Department Coordinator Min Bahadur Shahi, ‘Despite the siege on UML from all sides, we are on the election campaign with determination.’ In the 2079 election, UML received the most proportional votes. It came second in the direct vote. UML brought 2,791,734 in the proportional vote. This is more than the Congress.

Although Congress came first in the direct vote, it came second in the proportional vote. Congress received 2,666,262 votes in the proportional vote. It won 57 seats in the direct vote. In the 2079 election, an alliance was formed between Congress, Maoists, Unified Socialists, and JSP Nepal. UML brought 44 seats directly and 34 seats in the proportional vote. In 2059, UML had formed an alliance with RPP and some independent candidates. Directly, 141 candidates were fielded. This time, candidates have been fielded in 165 constituencies.

The then Maoists contested the elections in an alliance with the Congress and the Unified Socialists. At that time, the Maoists won a total of 32 seats and the Unified Socialists won 10 seats. ‘Since the NCP was formed by about two dozen parties, the country is in crisis due to the Congress-UML coalition government, and the NCP has put forward the issue of good governance, prosperity and social justice, we will increase the number of seats than before,’ said NCP leader Barshaman Pun.

NCP leader Agni Sapkota, citing that he is receiving encouraging reports from across the country, claimed that he will become a bigger party than before. ‘We are receiving encouraging reports from across the country due to our issue and our commitment,’ he said, ‘This time we will become a decisive force.’

In the 2079 elections, the Maoists won 18 seats directly and 14 seats through proportional representation. The proportional representation had won 1,161,931 votes. Even though the Unified Socialist Party won 10 seats, it could not become a national party as it could not cross the three percent 'threshold'. The Unified Socialist Party had secured 291,144 votes in the proportional representation.

This time, the NCP has claimed to secure 1.7 million votes in the proportional representation. The NCP has already decided to run its election campaign with special emphasis on the 56 possible constituencies in the election. This time, the NCP has fielded candidates in 164 constituencies, excluding Baglung-1. During the 2079 elections, the Maoists had directly fielded candidates in only 47 constituencies.
