A controversy has emerged in Rupandehi over the Progressive Democratic Party's action against a candidate for the House of Representatives. After the party took action against its own candidate, Pralopa had made public its decision to support the CPN-UML in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 on Wednesday.
Pralopa central members Bamdev Chhetri, Bimala BK and central member and regional in-charge Rabina Bhandari issued a statement saying that after party candidate Govinda Karakheti was subjected to disciplinary action, Pralopa had made it public on Wednesday that it had decided to support UML candidate Basudev Ghimire in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3. The statement was signed by central members BK and Bhandari, while another central member gave the agreement between the two parties to UML candidate Basudev Ghimire.
However, Pralopa's Rupandehi in-charge Pankaj Rai issued a statement on Wednesday itself, stating that the district would not accept the decision made by the central members. In the statement he issued, he claimed that Lumbini Province Chairperson Council member Yagya Pokharel and central member Bamdev Chhetri had unilaterally made the party's proportional representation candidates Bimala BK and Rabina Bhandari sign the party's letter under the illusion that it had been decided to support the UML candidate after consulting the center and the province.
The statement issued by the BK mentions the name of District Coordinator Krishna Banjade, but does not have his signature. Since there is no direct candidate from the party in Rupandehi-3, a meeting is currently being held to decide who to support and the decision will be official, said In-charge Rai.
The public statement mentions that there is electoral coordination with the UML in some places in Karnali Province and the former Rapti. However, the constituency has not been disclosed.
Earlier, on Magh 23, Govinda Karakheti, a candidate for the House of Representatives in Rupandehi-3 from the Progressive Democratic Party (Pralopa), was expelled from the party. The party took action against him for engaging in individualistic activities against the party's interests. Karakheti was accused of making his wife a proportional candidate from the Shram Sanskriti Party despite becoming a direct candidate from the Pralopa.
