Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa said that the upcoming election situation has created it. President Thapa, who came to Biratnagar for the first time after the special convention, commented that the political turmoil of Bhadra 23 and 24 has put the country on the brink of elections.

Thapa, who came to participate in the public program organized by the Congress Koshi Province for the candidates, made it clear that the protection and implementation of the constitution is the main agenda of the Congress.

‘Today, we are able to carry out democratic activities because of the constitution issued by Sushil Koirala,’ he said, ‘Today is also Koirala’s memorial day. This constitution needs many reforms, but its continuation is essential.’

Recalling the political events of Bhadra 23 and 24, Thapa termed the anger of the youth who took to the streets as an ‘explosion of dissatisfaction’. He further said, ‘That uprising was the product of the people’s disappointment. Not only the youth who came to the streets, but also those who stayed at home were dissatisfied with the current situation.’

President Thapa admitted that some of the decisions made in the past for power and elections were flawed.
‘The tendency to agree with anyone to win elections and do anything to stay in government has raised questions among the citizens,’ he added, ‘Citizens are asking, what difference will changing the Congress make in my life? Now we must answer this through work.'

Thapa declared that the five years after Falgun 21, 2082, would be a 'period against corruption and misrule'. Stating that the rule of law is the surest weapon to end misrule, he expressed the determination of the Congress to make no compromise on this.
