The contest in Dang-2 is not only a matter of interest to many but is also considered a 'test' that will determine the political future of UML General Secretary Pokharel.

In previous elections, there was speculation about the main competition due to alliances between parties. This time, it is not easy to predict the winner or loser due to the competition between the parties alone.
This time, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel is the competitor in Dang-2. He is facing candidates from experienced parliamentary politics and new parties. The competition in Dang-2 is not only a matter of interest for many, but is also considered a 'test' to determine the political future of UML General Secretary Pokharel. In 2079, Pokharel was defeated by Rekha Sharma of the then Maoist Center in the same constituency by a margin of 193 votes. Sharma, who was a candidate from the Maoist Center and the Congress alliance, won by 26,880 votes. Pokharel had received 26,687 votes. Even though there was an alliance between the competing parties, UML alone received 26,687 votes and was defeated by a narrow margin, so Pokharel believes that if he works hard, he can win this time.
In 2079, UML received 23,568 votes in the proportional representation, Congress 19,591, and Rastriya Swatantra Party 13,033. Pokharel's analysis is that considering the votes the party received in the proportional representation and direct representation at that time, UML's own votes were sufficient for victory.
In 2074, Pokharel was elected as a member of the Provincial Assembly from Dang 2 (1) and became the founding Chief Minister of Lumbini. He says that votes will also be received based on the evaluation of the work done as Chief Minister.
Pokharel says that he will get votes because of important works such as bringing Deukhuri from Dang to the capital of Lumbini Province, blacktopping the road connecting Gausahar, initiating the construction of a bridge under the Lamahi-Ghorahi-Tulsipur road, constructing the Ghorahi-Tulsipur four-lane road under the Madan Bhandari Highway, leading the establishment of Rapti Engineering College in Ghorahi, and leading the upgrading of the Rapti Health Sciences Institute.
In 2051, Pokharel was elected as an MP from Dang-3 by defeating Deepak Giri of the Nepali Congress. In 2056, Pokharel was defeated by Krishna Kishore Ghimire of the Nepali Congress from Dang-2. In the 2064 Constituent Assembly election, he was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly from a proportional representation party and became the Minister of Information and Communications. In the second Constituent Assembly election in 2070, Pokharel was defeated by Buddhiram Bhandari of the Nepali Congress from Dang-4.
Pokharel, who rose to power from a student organization, has established himself in party politics by becoming the central president of the ANRFSU and the president of the Tribhuvan University Central Campus Kirtipur.
The attacks on UML along with the Gen-G movement have become his main challenge. He has also been asked most of the questions that come to party chairman KP Sharma Oli. The challenge for him is to save UML votes and gain other popular votes by solving those questions.
Pokharel is being contested by Congress's Kiran Kishore Ghimire, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) joint general secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya and Nepali Communist Party's central member Nirmal Acharya. Congress's Kiran Kishore Ghimire has become a candidate for the first time. Despite being a member of a political family, Ghimire has got the opportunity to contest elections for the first time.
His brother Krishna Kishore Ghimire had defeated Pokharel in the 2018 elections. Another brother Kamal Kishore Ghimire had contested and lost in 2074. Kiran Kishore is the third member from the same family to compete with Pokharel.
Ghimire believes that it will be easy for him to win because of the old base of the Congress and the opportunity to be tested for the first time. Looking at the 2079 election, it is analyzed that the majority of the votes that the National Independent Party can attract are from the Congress. It is also a challenge for him to win the election alone while saving those votes. Acharya, a candidate of the Nepali Communist Party, is participating in the election for the second time.
Acharya was defeated in the 2070 Constituent Assembly election from the same constituency. In 2079, Rekha Sharma, who was his party's candidate, won the election. At that time, there was an alliance with the Congress. This time, it is a challenge for him not to be in an alliance with other parties. Only the then Unified Socialist Party led by Madhav Kumar Nepal has merged and is in his party.
Acharya of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is in the fray for the first time. He has withdrawn his name from the proportional list and is contesting the election directly. Acharya is considered a trusted person of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane. He says that he is one of the main founders of the RSS and has entered the election as he wishes to be elected through direct vote. Recently, when there is a competition between old and new political parties, he is becoming a challenge for other candidates.
Although he is new to district politics, it seems that he will compete fiercely with other candidates if he can convert the struggle between the old and the new going on across the country into votes. The issue of his name being linked to the cooperative fraud case has become a challenge for him. The issue of winning the hearts of the people by resolving the questions raised on this issue has become a test for him.
There are 23 candidates from various parties and independents from this area. There are 7 young people under the age of 40 in this area and 21 new candidates. There are only two female candidates in this area. They are also independent candidates. Currently, the candidates are going door-to-door to meet voters.
