UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, after meeting Prime Minister Sushila Karki, expressed interest in the work and status of the report of the inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents that took place on 23 and 24 Bhadra.

In a conversation with Prime Minister Karki, the then Prime Minister Oli had asked that the commission's report 'not be unfavorable to the election and to himself.'

'What is happening in the report of the commission of inquiry? Is the commission working?' An official from the Prime Minister's Office told Kantipur, citing Oli's question. Prime Minister Karki had replied that the commission was doing its job.

Oli was the Prime Minister when 19 youths died in police firing during the Gen-G movement on 23 Bhadra. He resigned on the afternoon of 24 Bhadra. Oli understands that if the commission's report is made public before the election, it will affect him.

Similarly, Oli is also concerned about the security of the election, ensuring that people can vote with confidence, and the safety of candidates, according to his personal secretary Shrestha. He had suggested to the Prime Minister to hold the election in one phase on 21 Falgun. The Prime Minister's Secretariat has stated that the government is prepared for the security of the citizens as well as all the processes, starting from the polling stations, and has also drawn attention to the possibility of fraud.

Prime Minister Karki said that the government is prepared for the security of the election, and that the role of the parties will be effective as the Nepal Army has been mobilized, so they can campaign confidently and make the election successful. Prime Minister Karki said that there will be no lack of security as the government has made an integrated security plan targeting the constituency and polling stations.

Karki urged the parties to participate in the election with confidence as there will be no lack of security as 80,000 soldiers have been deployed for the election since Wednesday.

She said that she is eager to hand over responsibility to the new government by making the 21 Falgun election successful. She also reiterated that she is determined to conduct the election in a free, fair and fearless manner.

Oli's personal secretary Rajesh Bajracharya also said that discussions focused on the election were held with Prime Minister Karki. Oli was ousted from power after the Gen-G protests of 23 and 24 Bhadra, and former Chief Justice Karki was appointed Prime Minister as a civilian government. Oli had previously been making comments that the Karki government was unacceptable, calling it a 'government of Ha Hu'.

However, UML Chairman Oli's meeting with the Prime Minister on Thursday before going to Jhapa to campaign for the election seems meaningful. Oli's meeting with the Prime Minister at a time when the Commission of Inquiry and the National Human Rights Commission were preparing to write their reports is being viewed with importance.

About 4 months after his ouster from Baluwatar, Oli himself took time to meet Prime Minister Karki on 24 Poush. After that meeting, which lasted for about three hours, Oli began to seem a little soft towards the Karki government. About a month later, Oli met Prime Minister Karki for the second time on Thursday. A few days ago, Oli had accused the government of conspiring to defeat him and the UML in the elections.

Oli was angry after the government changed the security leadership in Jhapa. UML leader Bishnu Rimal was also present at the meeting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Karki has said that the upcoming election to the House of Representatives will be held in a single phase across the country on 21 Falgun. ‘The election will be held in a single phase, be assured of this,’ Karki said, ‘What to do in case of heavy snowfall will be decided at that time.’

Earlier, at a program in Nawalpur, she had said that the election could be held in a second phase if there is snowfall in the Himalayan region last Tuesday. Protesting Prime Minister Karki’s statement, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal had pressured the government to hold the election in a single phase.

After watching the printing of ballot papers at the Janak Education Materials Center in Bhaktapur on Thursday, Prime Minister Karki told media persons that she felt that the election had come, ‘Now all that remains is for the people to vote. Rest assured, the election has come. It will be held on the appointed day, it will not happen twice.’
