Apart from Hari Prasad Bhusal of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bishnu Prasad Khanal of the Nepali Congress, Pitambar Bhusal of the UML, and Ram Bahadur Chauhan of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) have become candidates for the first time.
What you should know
As candidates of various parties have started reaching villages in the district, election activities have started to increase here. Currently, candidates and party leaders are meeting, discussing and interacting with the leadership of the district, municipality and village levels. The movement of leaders and activists has added excitement to the village.
In Arghakhanchi, Congress's Bishnu Prasad Khanal, UML's Pitambar Bhusal, Nepali Communist Party's Ram Bahadur Chauhan and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)'s Hari Prasad Bhusal are candidates.
Apart from RSS's Bhusal, Congress's Khanal, UML's Bhusal and NCP's Chauhan are candidates for the first time. RSP's Bhusal was also a candidate in 2079. Along with them, there are three independents and 12 candidates from other parties in the district.
According to the 2079 election results, Congress and UML appear to be ahead. However, recently, RSP and NCP are also trying hard to sway public opinion in their favor. UML seems to be trying to continue its victory in the district and Congress is trying to restore its old legacy. UML and Rastriya Janamorcha had won by coordinating in 2056. In 2079, even when there was a five-party alliance including the then Maoists, Unified Socialists, and Rajma, the UML won the representative and provincial assembly seats. In 2015, Congress's Subarna Shamsher Rana and Kashinath Gautam were elected from this region. After this victory, Rana became the 20th Prime Minister of Nepal. In 2016, Gautam became the Minister of Industry in the BP Koirala-led cabinet. At that time, Arghakhanchi was under Gulmi district. Rana from Kathmandu was elected from the current Arghakhanchi region and Gautam from Pokharathok was elected from the central eastern region. In 1843 BS, during the unification of Nepal, the current Arghakhanchi region was merged with the then Palpa state. Arghakhanchi became a separate district only after Nepal was divided into 14 zones and 75 districts in 2018 BS.
Rana won the election without setting foot in the land of Arghakhanchi. At that time, Congress leaders asked voters in the district for votes by showing Rana's photo in Kathmandu. After the restoration of democracy, two constituencies were established in the 2048 election. At that time, Congress's Revati Prasad Bhusal won the election from Arghakhanchi-1 and Dhundiraj Shastri from 2. In 2051, Bhusal and Shastri were also elected from the same constituency. After that, Shastri became the Minister of State for Industry and Bhusal became the Minister of State for Tourism. Both of them also became Congress central members. In the 2056 election, both Shastri and Bhusal did not get tickets. Shastri had passed away a few months ago.
In 2056, Dr. Ram Bahadur BC from Congress got tickets from Arghakhanchi-1 and Pushpa Bhusal Gautam from Arghakhanchi-2. In that election, an electoral alliance was formed between UML and Masal. Dilaram Acharya of Masal from Arghakhanchi-1 and Dr. Dilliraj Khanal of UML from Arghakhanchi-2 won the election. In 2064, Bhusal of Congress won the election from Arghakhanchi-2. In 2079, despite being in the coalition of five parties including the then Maoists, Pushpa Bhusal was defeated. In Arghakhanchi, where one constituency was created after the federal structure, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from the then Maoists in 2074 and from the UML in 2079. For the past two years, Rayamajhi has been in Kathmandu's Dillibazaar Jail for investigation in the Bhutanese refugee case. That is why he is not a candidate this time.
Rayamajhi had prevented the Congress from returning its legacy by winning four consecutive elections. Now, UML candidate Bhusal also claims to continue the party's victory. In 2074, the then Maoists and UML formed an electoral alliance. In the Sangh, the Maoists shared both the Rayamajhi and provincial seats with the UML. Chet Narayan Acharya was elected from Arghakhanchi-1 (1) and Ramji Prasad Ghimire from Arghakhanchi-1 (2). In 2079, Rayamajhi, Acharya and Ghimire were elected. Acharya is currently the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province.
Central member Chauhan is the candidate from the Nepali Communist Party. Chauhan, who has been active in social organizations, journalism and politics in the district for a long time, is considered an influential leader. UML candidates Pitambar and Chauhan are from the same village. Before the UML split at the center, Chauhan was the UML district secretary.
