In the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21, new and old candidates in Palpa-2 are busy wooing voters. The excitement of the election has been added as the candidates have started gatherings, discussions and door-to-door campaigns. The candidates are seen vying for how to attract voters.

In this constituency, UML and NCP have given tickets to candidates who had become candidates in 2079. Congress and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have fielded new candidates. 

Thakur Prasad Gaire, who had previously been a candidate from UML in the 2079 election, was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Palpa-2. The United Socialist Party (USP), a joint alliance of Congress, Maoist Center and Rastriya Janamorcha, defeated Gaire, the candidate of Som Prasad Pandey. Gaire got 27,817 votes, while Pandey of the United Socialist Party got 23,851 votes.

Their difference was 3,966 votes. In that election, RSP candidate Som Prasad Gaire got 5,180 votes. In the previous election, other parties and independent candidates were also in the fray. 

This time too, Gaire is the candidate from UML. Earlier, young leader and party president Himal Dutta Shrestha is in the fray from the Congress, which had supported the Unified Socialists. Som Prasad Pandey is in the fray again from the NCP. Pandey is an old and experienced leader of the district. Pandey, who has been in the fray continuously since 2051 BS, is also a former minister. District president and old leader Dul Bahadur Kunwar is in the fray from the RPP. Madhav Thapa is in the fray from the RSP. 

Looking at the results of the past elections, it is seen that the competition will mainly be between the UML, Congress, NCP and RSP. According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Tansen Palpa, there are 16 candidates in Constituency No. 2, including 14 political parties and 2 independents. Apart from the four main parties from Constituency 2, Dul Bahadur Kunwar from the RPP and Bal Bahadur Darlami from the Rastriya Janamorcha have registered their nominations. Top Bahadur Aslami has filed nominations for the National Janmukti Party from Constituency No. 2, Khik Bahadur Reshmi from the Janata Samajwadi Party (single election symbol), Dev Prasad Shrestha from National Republic Nepal, and Man Bahadur Darlami from the Mongol National Organization.

Krishna Shobha Musyakhwa from the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Ram Bahadur Aslami from the Sovereign Citizen Party, Bishnu Thadrai (Sarki) from the CPN (Maoist), and Bodh Raj Jaisi from the Progressive Democratic Party have filed nominations. Mohan Kunwar Thapa Magar and Keshav Prasad Basyal have filed nominations independently from Constituency No. 2. 

Pandey of the CPN is an experienced leader who has been contesting elections since 2051 BS. Shrestha of the Congress has become a candidate for the House of Representatives for the first time. Gaire of the UML had become an MP in the 2079 BS election by defeating the then SK Pandey. Pandey of the NCP is a candidate from the former constituency number 2 in 2051, 056, 064, 070. He lost only in the 2064 election. Pandey is a leader who won from constituency 2 of Palpa, which had 2 constituencies after federalism, with a wide margin in 2074 in the electoral alliance between the UML and the Maoist Center. 

Pandey has previously said that he has done many infrastructure development works in the district such as education, health, roads, physical infrastructure, drinking water and is a candidate for the remaining works. He said that he has started his election campaign from Siddhababa this time and has made physical infrastructure, education, health and employment the main agenda. 

Gaire of the UML has reached the doorsteps, admitting that there have been some complaints from the people against him recently and promising that such a situation will not happen in the future. He said that he will work from the road to the parliament for the development and prosperity of Palpa. Leader Gaire has been telling voters that he is running for office again to make the work that has been started and is yet to be done in 31 months since 2079 fruitful. He said that he will work to address the grievances of the citizens gradually. Although UML Vice President Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Ram Bahadur Raut got tickets in Constituency No. 2, Gaire got the ticket after a change. 

Shrestha of the Congress said that the citizens of the district have to face problems such as physical infrastructure, tourism, education, health, employment, etc. He said that he understands the problems they have been facing since the past well. He said that his main priority is to raise the issue of people's livelihood. Since Palpa's prosperity is tourism and agriculture, he said that oranges, vegetables, Akbar chillies, etc. can help in the economic development of farmers. He has reached the doorsteps, promising to be fully responsible and accountable to all voters and always support them in times of trouble and happiness.
