Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) candidate Tasi Lajom has written a letter to the Election Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs, demanding fair and fearless voting in Humla.
She has drawn the attention of the Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs, claiming that voters in Humla have not been able to vote in a fair and fearless environment in the past.
Lajom says that after registering her nomination as a candidate from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives to be held on Falgun 21, she has received complaints from voters that they have not been given the opportunity to vote fairly in the past.
'Many complaints have been received from the public about the election culture in Humla - on election day, there is party politicization at the polling station, voters' voting rights are violated, voters are pressured and threatened, violating their right to vote themselves, and even security personnel are just mute spectators at such times,' she claims in her letter. 'Voters in Humla have complained that there are acts contrary to the election code of conduct in previous local elections and the House of Representatives elections.'
Lajom claims that the right to privacy of voters is not maintained during the elections in Humla, voters are forced to give the will due to pressure and fear from any individual or group, and although the will should be applicable only to the disabled and the elderly, the investigating officer has not been strict about it.
Saying that the work of the commission so far for the upcoming elections is satisfactory, Lajom has drawn the attention of the Election Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs to be more active on the voting day. 'In this year's elections, I expect the commission to play a very active role in this and ensure the right to privacy of voters and a fear-free environment. Voters should be able to cast their votes in a clean, impartial and fear-free manner without being pressured by any individual or group,' Lajom demands.
She demands that the will should be monitored and that CCTV should be installed in the polling stations.
She has also written to the Home Ministry to make necessary arrangements for security arrangements after the voting. 'As ensuring the voting rights of every Nepali citizen in democratic practice is a very important role for both the Government of Nepal and the Election Commission, I request you to draw the attention of the concerned bodies to this matter,' she said.
Lajom has also urged the concerned bodies to make necessary arrangements for voters to reach the polling station as there is a lot of snow.
