Eleven candidates have filed their candidacies in Baitadi for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. Although 10 have filed their candidacies from political parties, Jayaprakash Pant is the only one to file his candidacy as an independent candidate, competing against candidates from 10 parties.

While the parties in Baitadi are engaged in election campaigns with the strength of their party organizations and cadres, an independent candidate is challenging them. Panta said that he has registered his independent candidacy to work independently on the issues of the people and fulfill the expectations of the people by abandoning party politics. He said that there will be a 'clean competition' rather than a 'clash' with the party candidates. Panta will have to compete with former Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari from the CPN (UML), Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) President Chatur Bahadur Chand from the Nepali Congress, former district president Pramananda Bhatta from the Nepali Communist Party, former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand's son Bhupen Bahadur Chand from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and Harimohan Bhandari from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP).

Similarly, he is competing with Ram Singh Kunwar from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), An Singh Bhandari from the Janata Samajwadi Party, Nawaraj Koirala from the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Bishan Singh Bohara from the Aam Janata Party, and Gajendra Raj Pandey from the Shram Sanskriti Party.

He was a member of the RPP until a year before registering his candidacy. He is a founding member of the RPP in Baitadi. He was a Kshatriya and District President in the RPP and then became a central member.

'While working as a member of the party for a long time with the aspiration of doing greater social service, I could not do the work of the people,' he said. 'I have filed my candidacy again to reach a place where I can raise the voice of the people by becoming independent.' He said that he needs to reach a place where he can raise his voice to improve basic services that are directly related to the lives of the people of Baitadi.

He says he is running to present himself as an alternative amid growing public dissatisfaction with the party's candidate.
