The election to the House of Representatives in Mahottari Constituency No. 1, which includes the new city of Bardibas in the district, has become interesting. The competition between old and new candidates has made the election here interesting.

Laxmi Mahato Koeri of CPN-UML, who was accused of murder in the 2079 election and could not raise the issue of the constituency in the parliament for three years after registering her nomination through Wares and receiving the certificate of election through Wares, is the candidate from UML. Girirajmani Pokharel, who was elected three times from this constituency and defeated Koeri in the previous election, has become the candidate for the fifth time from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP).

In this constituency, where the Nepali Congress did not have a candidate in two consecutive elections in 2074 and 2079, the Congress has fielded Dr. Mukesh Kafle, former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority. Rambhajan Mahato of Gaushala-11 said that the House of Representatives election has become special for the Congress as the Congress got the opportunity to vote with its own candidate after a long gap.

Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal has fielded Yog Narayan Mahato, Janamat has fielded Birendra Mahato, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) crusher businessman Pramod Mahato.

The election in Mahottari Constituency No. 1 has become interesting as new candidates Mukesh Kafle of Congress, Yog Narayan Mahato of JSP, Birendra Mahato of Janmat and Pramod Mahato of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are challenging the old candidates Laxmi Mahato of UML and Girirajmani Pokharel of CPN (UML).

Mahato-Pokharel face off for the third time

Girirajmani Pokharel of CPN (UML) and Laxmi Mahato Koiri of UML are competing with each other for the third time.

Girirajmani Pokharel of CPN (UML) was elected from this constituency in the 2064 and 2070 Constituent Assembly and 2074 House of Representatives elections, but was defeated by Laxmi Mahato Koiri of CPN (UML) in 2079. In 2074, Koiri was defeated by the then Madhesi Janadhikar Forum candidate for the House of Representatives from the same constituency.

Mahato, who suffered a defeat in 2074, was elected as a candidate from UML in 2079, defeating Pokharel. In 2079, Koiri got 23,402 votes, while Pokharel got only 22,372 votes.

Mahato, who was elected to the House of Representatives for a long time, was not able to enter parliament due to the murder of Armed Police ASI Thaman BK during the Madhesh movement. The bench of Mahottari District Court Judge Udhu Prasad Bhattarai acquitted Laxmi Mahato Koiri on the murder of Armed Police ASI Thaman BK on 28 Mangsir 2080. Koiri, who entered parliament after being acquitted by the district court, is preparing to win the election from UML for the second time.

Yog Narayan Mahato of JSP, who worked day and night to get Mahato elected in the 2079 election, has himself become a candidate. Mahati has been accused of making the region's presence in parliament zero for three years.

Koiri could not reach the rostrum of the parliament even once in his three-year tenure. Voters are angry with him for not raising the problems of the region in the parliament, while JSP leaders say that Koiri has been weakened by Yognarayan Mahato of JSP becoming a candidate from the base area where Mahato's votes come from.

Pokharel of the Nepali Communist Party, who has been influencing the region as a minister time and again, is trying to regain his lost political legacy. Pokharel is reaching the doorsteps of voters assuring that he will further advance the work started in the education and health sectors when he was a minister.

Kafle's 'entry' to the communist stronghold

Khayarmara is a settlement in the foothills of Chure surrounded by dense forests north of the East-West Highway. Khayarmara came into the spotlight after the Maoists entered the peace process and set up a camp of the People's Liberation Army. Due to the Maoists' dominance, votes for the victory of the NCP candidate Pokharel have been coming from here.

The Nepali Congress has fielded Kafle, the former managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority, as its candidate from Khayarmara, where Pokharel is expected to win. Pokharel, who converted the People's Liberation Army camp in Khayarmara into a technical school, used to receive one-sided votes from here. The then Maoist candidate Pokharel was supported by the Congress in 2079 BS. Kafle is the candidate from the Congress' base area of Pokharel, who was defeated while supporting the Congress. The Congress has fielded Kafle at a time when internal conflicts and divisions have arisen in the NCP when Pokharel was repeatedly fielded as a candidate from Mahottari.

In Mahottari Constituency No. 1, which has 105,646 voters, new candidates from the Nepali Congress, JSP and Rastriya Swatantra Party have given a tough challenge to their old rivals this time.

Crusher operator Rastriya Swatantra Party's candidate

Pramod Mahato is the candidate from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) in Mahottari Constituency No. 1. Mahato, who has been running a crusher business on the banks of the Marha River in Gaushala for a long time, had previously become an independent candidate in the 2079 provincial assembly elections from Mahottari-1 (1).

Mahato has recently changed parties to become a candidate to provide political protection to the crusher business. After becoming a provincial assembly candidate, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) through UML and LOSPA. Mahato's name was recommended by LOSPA for the House of Representatives candidate. But he is a candidate from LOSPA.

The Gaushala Municipality has decided to cancel the industry registration if 45 million rupees in revenue is not paid immediately by the RSSPA candidate Mahato, saying that he has illegally excavated from the Marha River in Gaushala and has embezzled revenue.

The executive committee of Gaushala Municipality, which met on 23 Jestha 2082, has decided to recover revenue of 45 million rupees including tax from the firm and to cancel the local business registration certificate of the firm, alleging that Shivam Gravel and Sand Washing Center, Gaushala-8, owned by the wife of Pramod Mahato, a resident of Gaushala Municipality-8, illegally excavated 225,000 cubic meters of stones, gravel and sand from a river near Bhantabari.

The municipality has not paid the revenue sought by the candidate Mahato.
