The Election Commission has sought an explanation from Shakti Basnet, a leader of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and candidate from Jajarkot, on charges of violating the election code of conduct.
According to the Election Commission, after receiving the complaint, the commission sought clarification from Basnet, saying that he was seen playing musical instruments and acting contrary to the code of conduct during the investigation. The commission has asked him to provide an explanation because he was seen giving five hundred rupee notes to members of the group who were seen playing musical instruments.
In the letter issued by the commission, it has requested him to submit an explanation as to why action should not be taken as per the election law since he was seen acting contrary to the election code of conduct. The commission has directed him to submit an explanation within three days from the date of receipt of the letter, either personally or through a representative, at the Election Office, Jajarkot or at the Election Commission, Nepal.
