Earlier, the Election Commission had informed on Thursday that Bhim Bahadur Thapa's candidacy was upheld. After both of them registered their candidacies with party tickets, a dispute arose over the legitimacy. Thapa had initially registered his candidacy. His proposers were central member Radheshyam Pathak and supporter Yamlal Bhusal.
The office of the Returning Officer had registered Thapa's candidacy at number 7. Kandel registered his candidacy after some time.
After both of them claimed to be the official candidates, District Chief Election Officer Dr. Rajendra Prasad Acharya took two days to study and gave Thapa legitimacy on Thursday.
