Sarlahi-4 has once again come to the center of national politics.

This constituency, which was in the news due to multi-party competition and rebel candidates in the 2079 House of Representatives elections, is at the center of debate and discussion this time with the arrival of Congress President Gagan Thapa.

The Congress Central Working Committee is preparing to nominate Thapa as the official Prime Ministerial candidate from Friday's meeting. After Thapa's candidacy as the future Prime Minister was registered from this constituency, Sarlahi-4 has become the most interesting constituency in the country after Jhapa-5.

Divided votes in 2079, independents win

The direct votes in Sarlahi-4 were extremely divided in 2079. Independent candidate Amresh Kumar Singh was elected with 20,017 votes. Congress' Nagendra Kumar got 18,253 votes, while Shivpujan Rai, who was in the then Maoist Center, got 14,622 votes when he fielded his daughter Madhumala Kumari Yadav as a candidate after he was not given a ticket.

Rakesh Kumar Mishra of JSP Nepal got 5,813 votes, while Rajaram Paswan of Bahujan Ekta Party Nepal got 5,158 votes. Janmat Party's Ram Babu Roy got only 3,429 votes.

Singh had contested independently after not getting a ticket from the Congress. This time, the same Singh has become the candidate from the National Independent Party. At that time, the Congress, the then Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist Party were in the same alliance. UML and JSP Nepal were another alliance. UML had supported the JSP Nepal candidate. Maoists, Unified Socialists and Democratic Socialists had supported the Congress candidate.

This time, UML has fielded Amonit Kumar Yadav as its candidate, while the NCP has fielded Dr. Rajnish Rai Yadav. Both parties have tried to give a message of change by fielding young candidates.

In the proportional representation, the Congress had received the first vote in this area with 16,029 votes. The Janmat Party had received the second vote with 12,595 votes, and the then Maoist Center had received 9,790 votes, while the UML had received 9,471 votes. This shows that the voters of the area are not permanent towards any one party.
