Who is Sandeep Pun, who is running against Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Rukum East?

The Rukum East constituency is set to be an interesting one for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. The election here has become a center of national interest after Sandeep Pun, the son of a martyr, challenged NCP coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal in this constituency.

Pun formally filed his candidacy on behalf of the Progressive Democratic Party on Tuesday. The candidacy of Sandeep, son of the martyr couple of the People's War, Suryaksha Pun and Parampara Gautam, is seen as meaningful in the politics of Rukum.

Candidate Pun is the central vice-president of the Akhil Krantikari, a student organization close to the former CPN (Maoist Center). Having emerged from student politics, he is also the chairman of the 'Martyr and Missing Warriors' Descendants Foundation'.

Pun, who has been advocating for the rights of martyr families and the victim community for a long time, is currently affiliated with the Progressive Democratic Party, which is patronized by Baburam Bhattarai and Janardan Sharma.

He is a central member of the party and is also leading the student command.
