Former Minister Vijay Kumar Gachhadar has filed his candidacy for Sunsari Constituency No. 3 on behalf of the Nepali Congress.
There was confusion throughout the day when Vijay and his brother-in-law Ved Gachhadar reached the office of the election officer carrying a ticket signed by party president Gagan Thapa. After a day-long discussion, Ved Gachhadar, who is also the mayor of Duhabi Municipality, withdrew, and Vijay registered his candidacy at the last minute.

He was defeated by CPN-UML candidate Bhagwati Chaudhary in the 2079 BS House of Representatives election by a margin of more than 5,000 votes. Gachhadar, who is also a former Deputy Prime Minister, was acquitted by a special court despite being involved in the embezzlement of government land at Lalita Niwas. Sujendra Tamang in Sunsari 1, Rajiv Koirala in Constituency No. 2, and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki in Sunsari 4 have registered their candidacies from the Nepali Congress.
