3,484 people have registered their candidacies for the upcoming House of Representatives elections in the direct elections.
Within the deadline set by the Election Commission on Tuesday for the registration of nomination papers, 2,297 candidates from 68 political parties and 1,187 independent candidates have filed their nominations. Of these, 3,088 are men and 395 are women.
Elections are being held for 165 seats on Falgun 21. Candidates were scheduled to register their nomination papers from 10 am to 5 pm today. The Commission had called for candidates to bring 13 types of documents, including citizenship or voter ID card, for the registration of candidacy.
The period for filing complaints against candidates whose nomination papers have been registered has been fixed from 10 am to 3 pm on Magh 7. The nomination papers and complaints will be examined and decided on from 3 pm on Magh 7 to 5 pm on Magh 8, and the list of candidates will be published from 5 pm to 7 pm on the same day. The time for candidates to withdraw their names has been fixed from 10 am to 1 pm on Magh 9.
The final list of candidates will be published from 1 pm to 3 pm on Magh 9 and the election symbols will be given to the candidates from 4 pm to 7 pm on the same day, the commission has stated.
