Controversy has flared in Rupandehi Constituency No. 2 over the issue of candidates for the House of Representatives. Local leaders and activists have also become dissatisfied after the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) gave tickets to two people from the center. Many activists have divided towards both candidates.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had given a ticket to Ashish Subedi of the Balendra Shah group on Monday. He had come to Butwal with the ticket and started preparations. The controversy escalated after the ticket was given to Sulabh Kharel of the RSSP again on Monday night. Both candidates are preparing to nominate candidates claiming their legitimacy. Subedi is the current candidate from the Balendra group, while Kharel had previously participated in the primary election claiming his candidacy in the by-election scheduled for Rupandehi-3. Lekhjung Thapa got the ticket in Rupandehi-3. He is still active. According to

sources, Subedi, who had earlier received the ticket, has now turned off his mobile and gone out of contact. He has claimed that he is the official candidate. He is also preparing to nominate his candidacy as an independent candidate in case the party takes away the ticket, his close associates have said. Similarly, Sulabh Kharel also said that he was at Kathmandu airport to go to Butwal as the party had instructed him to register his candidacy and that he would register his candidacy after reaching Butwal.

Dissatisfaction has increased in the Rupandehi RSVP, saying that the party has insulted those working in the region and contributing to the party and given tickets to newcomers and those outside the region. Ganesh Paud, who contested the election with UML's Bishnu Poudel in 2079 BS and was defeated by 1,366 votes, is also unhappy with the party's decision. He is also preparing to file his candidacy as an independent. In Rupandehi-2, UML has fielded Vice President and former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, industrialist and businessman Chunna Prasad Poudel from the Nepali Congress, and Subash Pandey (Bishwadeep) from the NCP.

RSVP District President Dr. Buddhi Prasad Sharma said that both candidates are in the fray so far and the officiality has not been finalized. "We have asked the center to quickly decide who is the official," he said. "It will be decided soon." He said that despite general dissatisfaction, all problems will be resolved once the official status is finalized and the party will enter the election unitedly.
