Senior leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Balen Shah has reached Jhapa-5 to register his candidacy for the House of Representatives. He is scheduled to register his candidacy at 11 am on Tuesday.
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is also a candidate in the constituency. Oli is scheduled to file his candidacy at 1 pm on Tuesday, according to his secretariat.
Oli had reached Jhapa on Monday, while Balen Shah arrived in Jhapa only on Tuesday after completing a program organized in Janakpur. Balen informed on social media that he had reached Jhapa-5 on Tuesday morning.
The election atmosphere has become more interesting due to the competition between two influential leaders in Jhapa-5. With the registration of candidacies by both leaders, political activity in the area is expected to increase further.
