Former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and senior leader of the National Independent Party Balendra Sah (Balen) has filed his candidacy from Jhapa-5. His supporters include Bheshraj Bhattarai and proposer Bhuminandan Baral. Ranjit Tamang has been nominated as a candidate.

He reached the election office on Tuesday with hundreds of supporters. The supporters took him to the election office with slogans and tableaus. His candidacy in Jhapa-5 has made the election competition more interesting.

It is expected that the main competition in Jhapa-5 will be between Balen, who is projected by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the future Prime Minister, and UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The NCP, on the other hand, has fielded former student leader Ranjit Tamang as its candidate in Jhapa-5.
