There has been a controversy within the National Independent Party (NISP) Tehrathum regarding the selection of candidates for the elections to be held on February 21.
The office bearers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) district working committee and all municipal committees have resigned en masse, saying that the party center gave tickets to certain people in violation of the district's sentiments and established procedures.
The district committee had recommended Surendra Karki as a candidate. But after the RSSP central committee decided to field Rituraj Limbu as a candidate in Tehrathum, against the district's recommendation, the dissatisfied ones resigned en masse.
They resigned while addressing the party's central president Ravi Lamichhane.
They claim that the party's procedures have been questioned by going beyond the candidate selection process approved by the party itself and giving candidate tickets to certain people against the sentiments of the district and provincial committees.
Those who submitted their collective resignations include District Working Committee President Suman Khatri and key leaders of all municipalities. Chhetri was a contender in this area. Other office bearers include Ganesh Khapung as coordinator, Suman Limbu as president of Myanglung Municipality, Chhatra Bahadur Thapa as coordinator of Laligurans Municipality, Bishnu S. Katuwal as secretary of Menchhyayem Rural Municipality, Laxman Thapa as coordinator of Chhathar Rural Municipality, and Phedap Rural Municipality.
