The National Independent Party (NIP) has finally fielded Dharmaraj KC as its candidate in Lamjung for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21.
He has been nominated by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). KC had secured third place in the 2079 House of Representatives election by securing 9,029 votes.
Prithvi Subba Gurung of the CPN (UML) had won the election by securing 34,969 votes. His closest rival, the then ruling coalition Congress-Maoist Center candidate Dev Prasad Gurung of the Maoist Center, received 31,781 votes.
KC, who was the founding district president of the party and a member of the central organization department, had resigned from his role as chief advisor to Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun in the fourth week of Poush to contest the election in Lamjung.
Although KC easily got the candidate ticket in 2079, he had to face a tough challenge this time. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) meeting on December 22 recommended KC as a single candidate after Secretary of the Department of Migration Padma Raj Panthi and Nitesh Silwal, who had joined the Ujjaya Nepal Party, submitted their candidacies online. The meeting on December 30 recommended all three of them after filling out the evaluation form.
KC, who hails from Sundarbazar Municipality-6, Khatrithanti (Dhodsing), Lamjung, has completed a master's degree in engineering from Aju University in South Korea. KC's biography states that he has worked as an energy, climate, change and sustainable development expert in 40 countries, including Nepal.
