Former President Sher Bahadur Deuba is ready to resolve the dispute within the Congress. A leader said that the efforts made by the second-tier leaders for the past few days have brought them closer to an agreement. The leaders of the Deuba faction, Bal Krishna Khand and Ramesh Lekhak, and Minendra Rijal from the Shekhar Koirala faction, along with the elected office bearers from the special general convention, were taking the initiative to resolve the dispute.
After Thapa, Deuba and Koirala's factions were ready to move forward with a consensus in the elections during the dialogue, the leaders are currently in discussions to draw up a consensus framework. Congress spokespersons Devraj Chalise and Madhu Acharya, Deuba's faction's Ramesh Lekhak and Koirala's faction's Minendra Rijal are in discussions in Maharajgunj to draw up a consensus framework.
After an understanding was reached between all the parties to move forward with a consensus, General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire said that talks are currently underway to draw up a consensus framework. 'A task force representing all the parties will draw up a consensus framework, and then we will move forward with a consensus,' General Secretary Ghimire said.
Leader Koirala had addressed the leaders and cadres of his group only yesterday and called for them to move forward with unity in the elections. Although it is natural to seek legal redress in court regarding the Election Commission's decision, the leaders of the Deuba faction had become defensive after Koirala's stance that street protests should not be resorted to.
Newly elected President Gagan Thapa and his team had been discussing with leaders close to President Deuba. For an agreement, the writ filed by former acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka against the Election Commission's decision in the court on Sunday should be withdrawn and tickets should not be distributed but tickets should be given to leaders who have won, are likely to win and are popular.
'A broad agreement has been reached. Since the nomination time is tomorrow, the three parties are ready to make some kind of agreement today and continue with ticket distribution and give a message of party unity in the election,' said a leader close to Deuba.
Former President Deuba still aspires to contest the election for the last time. According to leaders close to him, a broad agreement has also been reached to give tickets unless Deuba himself wants it.
