The CPN-UML has finalized its candidate for Kavre 2 for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 2. UML central member and Dhulikhel Municipality Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju (Shreshtha) has been named the candidate for Constituency No. 2.
Byanju, who is also the former president of the Nepal Municipal Association, has succeeded in becoming a candidate for the House of Representatives, defeating UML Central Committee member Gokul Baskota. Baskota had won the House of Representatives twice in 2074 and 2079 in this constituency.
Byanju, who was elected as the mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality in the local elections of 2074 and 2079, was elected as a central committee member at the recently concluded general convention of UML. He was elected as the deputy mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality in the local elections of 2054.
Although he is certain to be a candidate, he has not yet resigned from the post of mayor.
There is talk that Baskota, who is currently close to Oli, has been deprived of the ticket as his distance from party chairman KP Sharma Oli has increased. Byanju, who is currently close to Oli, has been given the ticket. Byanju was previously a provincial committee member of CPN-UML and before that, he was the district committee chairman. He has also worked as a district committee member, deputy secretary, secretary, and vice president. Byanju, who started politics in 2043 BS, is also a former journalist. He is also known as a local level expert.
UML candidate Gokul Baskota won the House of Representatives election held in 2079 BS by getting 45,345 votes. His nearest rival, Congress's Shiva Prasad Humagain, got 39,482 votes. National Independent Party candidate Dinesh Humagain got 10,573 votes.
