Former Prime Minister and Nepali Communist Party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and CPN-UML central member Ajay Gupta are set to face off again from Rautahat-1 in the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21.

Nepal had defeated Gupta by 6,600 votes in the previous House of Representatives election. At that time, the leader was the chairman of the Nepal Samajwadi Party. After the Samajwadi Party merged with the Nepal Communist Party, his name was single-handedly recommended from Rautahat 1. This area is also his hometown.

His political image was tarnished after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a case in a special court in the Patanjali land case, making 93 people, including former Prime Minister Nepal, defendants.

Nepal had previously been elected from his home district Rautahat-1 in the 2056 general election and the second Constituent Assembly election in 2070. In the first Constituent Assembly election in 2064, he was defeated by the then CPN-Maoist candidate Devendra Patel. He was elected from Kathmandu-2 in the 2074 House of Representatives election. He won again from Rautahat-1 in the 2079 election.
