What you should know

In Gulmi, the CPN-UML has repeated its old face in both constituencies. Pradeep Gyawali and Gokarna Bista, known as heavyweight leaders in central politics, have entered the election fray from the CPN-UML.

The outgoing Deputy General Secretary, currently a central member, Gyawali is an influential leader of the UML. He was defeated by Congress leader Dr. Chandra Bhandari in the last election from Gulmi-1. Gyawali received 32,152 votes while Bhandari won the election with 33,744 votes. This time, there are 122,186 voters in this constituency. The other competitors to face Gyawali are yet to be decided.

Vice President Gokarna Bista is also an influential leader of the CPN-UML. In the last election from Gulmi-2, Bista defeated CPN Unified Socialist leader Ram Kumari Jhankri. Jhankri, who was a candidate in an alliance with the Congress at that time, has returned to the UML this time.

Bista won with 28,485 votes while Jhankri got 26,441 votes. This time, there are 17,363 voters in this constituency. The other competitors to face Bista are yet to be decided.

From Constituency No. 1, influential leader of Nepali Congress Dr. Chandra Bhandari, along with a dozen other leaders, will be finalized by Sunday evening. In this constituency, one of the two recommendations, including Kamal KC, from the National Independent Party, will enter the fray. KC had won the ward chair position as an independent in Chandrakot Rural Municipality-2. Former Lumbini Province Minister Sudarshan Baral is in the fray from the Nepali Communist Party in this constituency.

From Constituency No. 2, Nepali Congress Lumbini Province Deputy President Bhuwan Prasad Shrestha is recommended along with more than a dozen other leaders. But the candidate has not been finalized yet. The National Independent Party and the Nepali Communist Party have not yet finalized their candidates in this constituency.

CPN-UML District Committee Gulmi Chairman Bal Singh Kaucha said that the candidates for both the House of Representatives constituencies have been finalized. He has urged everyone to be united since the candidates will now be the common candidates of the parties after entering the fray.
