UML Vice President and former Minister Bishnu Poudel, who has been winning elections consistently for the past two decades, has left Rupandehi-2.

Poudel is set to be the candidate from Palpa-2 in the upcoming House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21. Poudel had been winning all elections since 2064 from Rupandehi-2. He had won the 2051 election from the former Palpa-3 and the current Palpa-2. The people of Rupandehi are surprised that Poudel, who won from Rupandehi-2 by a narrow margin in the 2079 election, is going to Palpa-2.

Although district leaders and Poudel himself did not express any reaction, according to the UML secretariat meeting held on Saturday night, it was decided to field Poudel as a candidate from Palpa-2.

UML has left party chairman KP Sharma Oli to decide on Rupandehi numbers 1, 2 and 4 later, while Basudev Ghimire and Khimlal Bhattarai have been given tickets from 3 and 5. While Vice President Poudel was given a ticket in Palpa-2, Narayan Acharya got a ticket from number 1. Palpa-1 is considered a safer area for UML than Palpa-2.

UML has fielded Birendra Kanodia, who joined UML only on Saturday, as its candidate in Kapilvastu. Ghanshyam Pandey has been fielded as a candidate in Dang after discussions in 1 and 2. In Gulmi, Pradeep Gyawali has been fielded as a candidate in 1 and Gokarna Bista has been fielded as a candidate in 2.

Similarly, in Banke, Surya Dhakal has been fielded as a candidate in 1 and Dal Bahadur Sunar has been fielded as a candidate in 3, but a decision has not been made on 2. In Bardiya, Salikram Adhikari has been fielded as a candidate in 1 and Bimala BK has been fielded as a candidate in 2. UML has given a ticket to Surya Thapa in Pyuthan.
