The Election Commission on Friday recognized the working committee elected from the second special general convention of the Nepali Congress. The first meeting of the Congress, headed by Gagan Thapa, was not held at the party central office, as the commission has already updated the decisions made by the general convention in accordance with the constitution, law and party statute. Their meeting on Saturday was held at the Arpan Banquet in New Baneshwor.
The meetings of the outgoing President Sher Bahadur Deuba group have been continuously held at the central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.
The leaders of the Gagan Thapa group said that they could not hold the meetings at the central office as the party office was undergoing renovation.
‘The buildings have burned down after the Gen-G demonstration. There is no suitable place to hold the meetings. The renovation work is currently underway,’ said Co-General Secretary Prakash Rasaili ‘Snehi’, ‘The other group is also seen in a state of excitement and agitation. The building is under construction and renovation. After the work is completed, we will also go to the central office. We are seeking unity and friendship.’
Following the Election Commission's decision, the Deuba group is seen preparing to go to court, while people close to him are deployed to secure the party office.
