Leaders and cadres of the National Independent Party (NISP) from Karnali Province are on a sit-in at the central office.
They have been protesting since 2 pm on Friday to draw the attention of the leadership to the fact that Karnali is not represented in the proportional list prepared by the party and that Tasi Lhajom's name has been removed from the list.
Budhe Budha, a member of the Karnali Provincial Committee, said that a group of 14 people had been protesting at the party central office all night. They were still on the protest till Saturday morning.
'Tasi Lhajom was placed at number one from the tribal cluster in the proportional list. Even though he did not withdraw his name, the party itself has withdrawn his name,' he said, 'Karnali is not represented in the proportional list. That is why we have been protesting here all night to draw the attention of the leadership.'
'Tasi did not call us, rather we called him. Karnali was happy when tribal youth and women were also represented. But, why did the party remove his name?,’ he said earlier, ‘It is not to find fault with the party. What is the mistake? We have to say. We have come to find answers. We will not leave here until we get answers.’
He said that even though the Chitwan gathering had left out the representation of gen-ji, women and geography, Karnali did not feel it. He complained that when they sought answers on this issue, they did not get any answers from anyone. ‘We have not met the party president. We are waiting at the party office. I hope that injustice will not be done to us. The way we look at Karnali should not be different. All the friends from the entire Karnali province have joined,' Budha added, 'If the RSVP is a party that walks for justice, why did this happen?'
On Wednesday, the issue of the removal of Tasi's name from the proportional list by the RSVP was made public. Her name was in the tribal cluster. Tasi herself has said that she has not withdrawn her name from the list.
'I have filed my candidacy as per the party's process. I have not received any advice regarding the removal of my name,' she said, 'I have not withdrawn my name either.'
Tasi has also challenged the allegations made against her to prove it. 'I have said repeatedly that I am not Tibetan. I am a citizen of Nepal. I am not connected to the Tibetan Movement,' she said, 'If I am accused of this kind, please provide proof. Can you do anything by following rumors?' Why do I have to prove myself as a Nepali? I am not involved in the Free Tibet campaign in any way. My boyfriend is not Tibetan either.'
She said that she is raising questions about good governance with the party because she wants to strengthen the party. She said that she trusts the leadership and that the leadership will continue to improve it. She said that she has completed all the procedures even while being a party member.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Mugu district vice-president Manoj Kumar Shahi says that they are continuously protesting so that injustice is not done to Karnali Province. He said, 'This is a protest for good governance.' Earlier, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) spokesperson Manish Jha had said that he had withdrawn his name after discussing with the leaders.
