After leaders of the Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba faction approached the Election Commission and requested it not to accept the petition submitted by the Gagan Thapa faction, claiming that they had not held any general convention, the Election Commission has responded by going beyond the rules and not making a decision.

Acting Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission Ram Prasad Bhandari said that the Election Commission will analyze within the framework of the constitution, acts, and laws.

‘The Commission will not make decisions outside the rules and procedures,’ Bhandari said, ‘The Commission is confident that you will participate in the work according to the election schedule.’

This morning, Shekhar Koirala, led by Acting Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka, and some legal experts reached the Commission.  They have claimed that the special general convention held by the Thapas is illegal.
