He said that he had also requested Shekhar to lead the transition period after the Gen-G rebellion. He also clarified that he had gone with Bishwaprakash to tell Koirala about this.
Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has said that Shekhar Koirala was the first person to speak out for a special general convention in the party. Speaking directly to Kantipur's podcast series Beyond the Headlines, Thapa spoke openly about Shekhar Koirala's role.
He said that he had also requested Shekhar to lead the transition period after the Gen-G rebellion. He also clarified that he had gone with Bishwoprakash and told Koirala about this.
Initially, after hearing Shekhar's call, many friends were in favor of a special general convention, but later he did not stand up properly. Thapa said, 'I feel bad. I thought I would get the biggest support from him in this fight.' He said that although he had hoped to get support from him in the leadership change, he did not get it.
In the previous general convention, Thapa had become the candidate for the post of general secretary from the Shekhar Koirala group. He also said that he had expectations from Shekhar. He said, 'Only yesterday he had called for him to return home. Now, what is the expectation that he will call for? The house under the leadership of Gagan Thapa is the main house. Until yesterday, we were in a dispute over authority. Now, he had to call for it to be over. That is the expectation.'
