Former President of the Nepal Bar Association, Prem Bahadur Khadka, has suggested that the Election Commission update those elected from the special general convention as soon as possible to resolve the Congress dispute.

Senior advocate Khadka, who reached the Election Commission, argued that updating the details would be a legal decision as the majority elected a new working committee as per Section 51 of the Political Parties Act and the Congress statute. He, who arrived to claim the official status along with a team led by Gagan Thapa, including Congress Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma, who was elected from the special general convention, asked for the details to be updated.

‘It is mentioned that it will be done if the central working committee deems it necessary or if 40 percent of the members call for it. The statute also makes a provision for punishment if the general convention is not called even when it is demanded,’ Khadka said, ‘The general secretaries have only addressed this.’

‘They have also submitted a petition to remove the details of the previous working committee and include the name of the newly elected one,’ he said, ‘This dispute will be resolved if the details are put in as soon as possible.’
