Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that the party's central committee meeting on Wednesday will reach some decision. Khadka said that if the General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma faction move forward with the leadership selection process at the special general convention, the central committee will take a decision.
Khadka told the leaders and cadres present at the party's central office, Sanepa, that the establishment party was trying to resolve the dispute until the last moment. He said that if the general secretary party starts the process of selecting a new leadership from the special general convention, the necessary decision will be reached from the central committee.
'The chairman said, "I will sign off and stop the election process," but the candidacy registration process went ahead. We will not just gather like yesterday (for the central committee meeting in Sanepa). Today, we will reach some decision,' Khadka said.
Khadka also said that he was worried that if the leadership selection from the special general convention goes ahead, the party would lead to division.
Khadka also said that the establishment party is making every effort to unite, saying that the party should not split when the election to the House of Representatives has been announced. 'Efforts are underway. The karma is in our hands, the decision is up (pointing to the sky)'. We are doing the calculations,' Khadka told Dhading District President Ramnath Adhikari and other leaders and cadres, 'We are trying to reconcile even until the last minute. We are trying to reconcile even until the last minute from the establishment side.'
Khadka also said that the party establishment side will not rush to take a decision, but the central committee will take the necessary decisions once the general secretaries move forward with the process of selecting a new leadership. 'We did not seem to be in a hurry. We are trying to reconcile until the last minute,' Khadka reiterated.
Khadka said that the general cadres want party unity and the leadership will move forward according to that sentiment. Khadka also said that the establishment side is calling on the general cadres to unite. A large crowd of leaders and cadres has gathered at the party central office for the central committee meeting. Security personnel have also been added.
The Congress central committee was called at 8 am on Wednesday. The meeting has been postponed to 1 pm. General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma are preparing to move forward with the process of selecting a new leadership from the special general convention that has been going on since December 10 at Bhrikutimandap.
