'My response is simply this - Gagan Thapa and I are both determined to change the Congress and the country. The special general convention in accordance with the constitution has given the country the right perspective, now it will give the right leadership!'
What you should know
The controversy within the Nepali Congress has reached a peak after the establishment faction (Sher Bahadur Deuba group) decided to expel leaders including General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, accusing them of violating party discipline.
This move by the Deuba-led party meeting held at the central office in Sanepa has been seen as an 'unexpected' and 'divisive' move in political circles.
A decision has also been taken to take action against Joint General Secretary Farmullah Mansur for organizing a special general convention and engaging in activities against the party's official line.
Immediately after the decision to take action against him was made public, General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma reacted strongly on social media. He made public the 8-point proposal presented to President Deuba for consensus this morning and asked, 'Which point in this was in the interest of the country and the party?'
The 8 points put forward by Sharma mainly include the proposal to contest the upcoming election alone (not forming an alliance), form a parliamentary board, and declare the prime ministerial candidate and go to the election.
Taking the decision to take action easily, Sharma has declared that Gagan Thapa and he will not back down from the party transformation campaign. He wrote, 'I read this point again with a smile, my response is simply this - Gagan Thapa and I are both determined to change the Congress and the country.'
He claimed that the special general convention held in accordance with the statute gave the country the right perspective and now the party will get the right leadership.
