Immediately after the establishment party took action, he said in a closed session at Bhrikutimandap that a general convention had to be held to form a new Congress. ‘We have told Sher Bahadur Deuba many times that we do not need anything. I have told him this morning,’ he said, ‘Let’s choose the leadership from a special general convention. Whoever we choose, we can choose. Purna Bahadur Khadka, Shekhar Koirala can be chosen. But let’s form a new Congress and go to the election.’
He said that his intention was not to hold a special general convention to become the president, but to form a new Congress and go to the election.
