Nepali Congress establishment party leader NP Saud has claimed that the special general convention called by the two general secretaries at Bhrikuti Mandap was not a special convention but merely a gathering.

Speaking to media persons at the party central office in Sanepa, leader Saud commented that the general convention meeting at Bhrikutimandap was only a meeting as General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma faction were also present in the meeting to postpone the regular general convention and set the new general convention date.

'The 15th regular general convention scheduled for the press has been postponed with the participation of the main leaders. They (Gagan-Bishwaprakash faction) were also present in the meeting to set the new date,' leader Saud said, 'This (special general convention) that they called after the regular convention was postponed cannot be more than a meeting.'

The special general convention faction has taken forward the election process to select a new leadership, while the President Deuba faction has convened a central committee meeting and gathered at the party office in Sanepa. The meeting called by the Deuba faction at 1 pm has not yet been held.

In an effort to reach a consensus, the central special general convention faction is also postponing the voting scheduled for today to Wednesday.
