Nepali Congress leader Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has said that the ongoing special general convention is irrelevant. Leaving the meeting with party president Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday, he also said that the election is a step towards stability for the country.

'There has been a discussion on the need to move forward according to the party's established values. The Central Working Committee has said that a special general convention is not relevant at the moment,' Karki said, 'Now is the election that will provide stability to the country. After the election, a regular general convention will be held in Baisakh.'

However, he also said that the door to consensus, dialogue and unity is always open in the party.

'Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has published an appeal to all leaders and representatives today,' he said, 'The Nepali Congress will move forward according to the wishes of the people by uniting the party and freeing the country from the current crisis.'

Similarly, Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav also said that he had called for unity in the discussion at Deuba's residence.

He said that there was a discussion on holding a regular general convention scheduled for Baisakh after the election.

President Sher Bahadur Deuba has intensified discussions with leaders close to him on Monday. Even now, leaders including Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, Jeevan Pariyar, Badri Pandey, Mohan Basnet, Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Sharan Mahat are participating in the discussions at Deuba's residence. Shekhar Koirala and Shashank Koirala have left the meeting.

Meanwhile, the closed session of the special general convention that began on Sunday is continuing at Bhrikutimandap. The special general convention is continuing under the leadership of General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma. Nine groups of representatives have been formed to discuss the separate reports presented by General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma.
