The Congress Special General Convention, which is being held at Bhrikutimandap, will be chaired by the senior general convention representative.
The closed session has just begun. Subash Pokharel, coordinator of the General Assembly Publicity Committee, said that 88-year-old General Assembly representative Shyam Kumar Khadka will preside over it. He is a representative of Kathmandu Constituency No. 8.
Kaski District President Kishore Dutt Baral will conduct the closed session. Pokharel said that the closed session will begin after General Assembly representative Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, who is also a legal practitioner, reads out the working procedures. He said that the closed session will move forward once the working procedures are passed.
General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma are scheduled to present proposals and reports in the closed session. Pokharel said that the general secretaries will present reports on 4 topics. ‘Reports will be submitted on contemporary political review, party policy, and amendments and revisions to the statute,’ he said. After that, 9 groups will be divided for discussion. The groups are scheduled to select leaders and hold discussions at separate locations for one and a half hours. The groups have been given 10 minutes each to present their conclusions in a closed session.
The establishment party leaders and activists, including President Sher Bahadur Deuba, are not participating in the special general convention. The inaugural session was held at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday. It is claimed that 2,662 delegates registered there. There are 4,743 general convention delegates in the Congress.
