Leaders of the National Independent Party (NIPP) Jhapa have suggested Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah to come to Kathmandu and contest the election against CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Jhapa District President Prakash Pathak, Secretary Shambhu Dhakal, Regional Coordinator (Jhapa 3) Laxman Basnet, and party's Central Production Promotion Department member Birodh Subedi proposed to contest the election from Jhapa during a meeting with him. Balendra had been discussing the option of contesting from Jhapa 5 with his close associates ever since he decided to enter parliamentary politics. According to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Jhapa President Pathak, Mayor Shah inquired about the situation in Jhapa during the meeting held on Sunday afternoon. 'We had come to the central office for a meeting, at that time the mayor said that we should meet our senior leader,' he told Kantipur. 'After we contacted him, he immediately said that we should meet and we talked about the election atmosphere in Jhapa.' In the process, Balendra also inquired about the impact that his contesting from Jhapa 5 would have on Koshi Province. In the process, most of them have briefed that it will be easier for their candidates to win elections in other districts of the province if they fight against Balendra Oli. ‘He had already come saying that he would fight against KP Oli, I got a reflection of that in his conversation,’ he added.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Jhapa Secretary Dhakal also said that he had found Balendra thinking of contesting the election from Jhapa. ‘He also said that he was studying it, and if he had to fight the election, there were things like fighting with Oli,’ he said. ‘Apart from that, there were discussions on the organizational issues of the party, he also said that everyone should abandon factional politics and work together.’
It was agreed with President Ravi Lamichhane that Lamichhane would lead the party and Balendra would lead the government. Since then, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has made Balendra a senior leader. This meeting with the party's Jhapa representatives took place at the residence of Balendra's friend Kumar Ben in Jwagal. When the discussions with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were not going in a positive direction, he intensified his meetings with people from various sectors here. Later, it was agreed that Ravi-Balendra would stand together and leave.
