Kulman-RSP agreement broken within 12 days

What you should know

The agreement between Kulman Ghising, who is preparing to contest the upcoming elections as the vice-president of the National Independent Party (NISP), and the NISP has broken down.

The unity was thwarted after Ujjaya Nepal Party patron Ghising made demands contrary to the agreement reached on Poush 14, according to a source in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Ghising and RSSWAP President Ravi Lamichhane held discussions on Friday and Saturday, saying they would reach a concrete agreement. During the discussion, Ghising mainly raised six issues.

'His proposal was that the RSSWAP should change its principles, give the senior vice president and general secretary to his party, change the name of the party, and give 30 people from his party central members,' a leader in the RSSWAP said. 'After making demands such as giving the number of his party to the direct candidate and allowing him to select the candidate himself, and finalizing certain positions for his party in the government formed after the election, there is no need to move forward with further agreement.'

It was not possible to get a response from the leaders of his party, including Ghising, on this issue.

RSP spokesperson Manish Jha also said that there will be no unity now. 'Unity is not possible now to cooperate in the coming days. It is not possible to give the number of candidates right now and say that you should finalize the candidate yourself, we have doubts about what kind of candidate you will bring,' he said, 'Since it is a party that has adopted democratic principles, there is no need to adopt other principles. It was also not possible to change the name of the party.'

He said that the path to reconciliation in the future is open.

Although Ghising submitted the names of 18 people in the proportional list, only 14 people were included. Ghising was dissatisfied saying that their serial number was being pushed back. He had asked for at least 20 central members, but Lamichhane replied that only 8 to 12 could be given.

A 7-point unity was announced between Ujjaya Nepal and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on the last day of the proportional list submission on December 14.

Ghising, who is the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, had reached Baluwatar on Wednesday evening and submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Sushila Karki. During that time, he also expressed his desire to move Ujjaya Nepal forward. He said that the 7-point agreement with the RSS had not been implemented and that he was not an ordinary member of any party.
