Leaders of the disgruntled faction of the RPP have demanded corrections to the party's list of proportional representation candidates, saying that there is opportunism and nepotism.
Addressing Chairman Rajendra Lingden, they said that the proportional representation system is a system provided by the Constitution of Nepal to ensure the political participation of minorities, backward, oppressed and disadvantaged classes and communities. However, they say that the proportional candidate list recently made public by the RPP has raised serious questions about the constitutional essence and the party's core ideals.
They also mentioned that this is a serious injustice done to leaders, workers and disadvantaged and struggling women who have been contributing to the party for a long time. 'Such a trend weakens the party's morality, principles and public trust. On what basis was the proportional selection made. And on what basis did we fail to get in,' they ask, 'Therefore, the opportunistic decision seen in the proportional list should be corrected immediately. All decisions that encourage nepotism should be repealed. Women and communities from minorities and disadvantaged groups who have continuously contributed to the party, who are struggling, capable and have genuine contributions, should be given fair opportunities.'
Stating that clear criteria should be implemented within the party that respect internal democracy, sacrifice and contribution, they have also said that the need of the day is for the RPP to become a principled, people-oriented and trustworthy political force free from opportunism and nepotism. 'We are drawing the serious attention of the Chairman on this issue and expect a speedy corrective decision. Therefore, if the demand is not addressed, we will be forced to start a hunger strike,' they said.
