The Congress has fielded Sunil Bahadur Thapa, son of former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, as its candidate from Koshi. He has been elected unopposed from the 'Other' cluster after the NCP did not field a candidate. Similarly, Dharmendra Paswan (Dalit) from Madhesh Province is a Dalit rights activist.
Ranjit Karna (disability/minority), who is the candidate from Madhesh Province, is the former president of the Nepali Congress. Geeta Devkota, the candidate from Bagmati, is a member of the Congress Mahasamiti. Jagat Timilsina, who was recommended from Gandaki, is an associate professor at Tribhuvan University.
Basudev Jangli (Ghimire) (disability/minority) Chandra Bahadur KC has become the candidate from Lumbini. KC is an old worker of Gulmi. He is also a former District Development Committee member. Jangli Dang is a leader of the Congress.
Lalit Jung Shahi, who is the candidate from Karnali Province, is the Congress Provincial President. Khamma Bahadur Khati (other) has been nominated for the Sudurpaschim Province. He was the Attorney General when Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba was the Prime Minister.
The Congress establishment party has nominated Paswan, Devkota, and Timilsina without any recommendation from the province. General Secretary Thapa objected to the method, process and proposed names of the National Assembly candidate selection and also expressed a different opinion on the decision of the Central Working Committee.
Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka had been holding continuous meetings for three days to select candidates for the National Assembly. However, he said that there was no discussion about the names in those meetings. Expressing dissatisfaction, General Secretary Bishwa Prakash boycotted the meeting.
Chairman KP Sharma Oli has made the final decision on all eight candidates put forward by UML for the National Assembly election. Among the candidates are Chairman Oli's personal secretary Roshni Meche, and Ram Kumari Jhankri, who returned to UML without joining the Maoists and the Unified CPN (UML).
Oli made Meche, a resident of Jhapa, his personal secretary when he became the Prime Minister from a minority community. Similarly, Jhankri, the then leader of the Unified CPN (UML) in Kartik, is going to be sent to the National Assembly from Lumbini Province. Since she is certain to win, she will become an MP. Similarly, Leela Bhandari, who has a former Maoist background, has been nominated from the Far West Province.
Among the candidates is Som Portel from Koshi Province. Although she is on the proportional list, she has already filed an application with the Election Commission to remove herself. Rekha Jha is from Madhesh Province. She has become a candidate on the recommendation of former Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav.
Prem Dangal, President of the Farmers' Federation, has become a candidate from Bagmati, and Samjhana Devkota of Gorkha from Gandaki. She was defeated in the 2074 local level elections on behalf of the UML for the post of Deputy Mayor from Gorkha Municipality.
In the 2079 elections, the UML made Devkota a candidate for mayor and in 2080, it made her a candidate for a member of the National Assembly. Devkota was defeated in all three elections. Minasin Rakhal is from Karnali. Rakhal from Dailekh became a member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly on the proportional list in 2074. Rakhal was elected as a central member at the 11th general convention of the UML held last November.
The Nepali Communist Party has fielded 17 candidates out of the 18 vacant seats in the National Assembly. Although 2 seats are vacant from Gandaki Province, the NCP has fielded a candidate in only 1. The NCP had decided to field its own candidates in all the seats after sharing the seats with the Congress-UML, but due to disagreements over the number of seats at the last minute, it had decided to field its own candidates in all the seats.
The NCP candidates include Khemraj Sundas and Namita Neupane from Koshi, Ramnandan Prasad, Laxman Poudel, Shambhu Paswan, Simkumari Agrawal from Madhesh, Prem Prasad Sapkota and Saroj Kumari Jha from Bagmati, Kapil Lama from Gandaki, Durga Bhandari, Brihaspati Adhikari and Sarjan BK from Lumbini, Buddhi Prasad Sharma and Anju Mahatara from Karnali, Tikaram Jaishi and Rozi Basnet Sunar from Sudurpaschim.
