In a meeting of the Congress Central Working Committee, General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma proposed that the Central Working Committee take ownership of the special general convention called in Kathmandu on December 10 and 11.
The Central Working Committee meeting was called on the instructions of President Deuba after the General Secretaries formally called for a special general convention through a joint statement on Thursday. In the Central Working Committee meeting, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka had urged the two General Secretaries to withdraw the decision as only the Central Working Committee has the authority to call a special general convention. However, the General Secretaries had said that since the special general convention is in accordance with the statute, it would be in the interest of the party to move forward with ownership by the entire party.
‘The Acting President, please convey this message to the President through you that a special general convention has been organized on the 27th and 28th in accordance with the statute. You should participate in the convention. Participating increases the prestige of the President. It will help to move the special general convention forward smoothly,’ Thapa said, ‘Rather than deciding to withdraw the signatures of the friends who are coming to the convention from here, this convention is ours.’ The decision by the Central Working Committee to take ownership is the legal and appropriate solution for today, and this is the only solution.’
