The UML, which has been demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives, has decided to go to the elections. The UML has gone ahead of other parties and has also formed a draft election manifesto and an election mobilization committee.

The standing committee meeting held at the party's central office in Chyasal on Tuesday made the formal decision to go for the election. Although it had previously been demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives, the UML had made internal preparations for the election. Accordingly, the UML has submitted the closed list of proportional candidates to the commission and is recommending direct candidates from across the country.

Chairman Oli Jhapa-5, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel Dang-3, Vice President Bishnu Poudel Rupandehi-2, Gokarna Bista Gulmi-2 have been recommended individually. The central committee meeting will decide on the direct candidate. The secretariat, under the coordination of party Chairman KP Sharma Oli, has formed an election manifesto drafting committee consisting of Vice Presidents Ram Bahadur Thapa, Bishnu Poudel, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, leaders Ishwor Pokharel, Pradeep Gyawali and Member Secretary Bishnu Rimal. The draft statute will be discussed in the central committee meeting to be held on 10th December.

To run a nationwide election campaign, the UML has formed an election mobilization committee under the leadership of Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa. The committee members include secretaries Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Rajan Bhattarai, Hikmat Karki, leaders Ramesh Badal, Min Bahadur Shahi and Bhishma Adhikari. A province in-charge has been appointed to run the overall campaign in the province. Secretary Sherdhan Rai in Koshi Province, leader Leelanath Shrestha in Madhesh, Secretary Mahesh Basnet in Bagmati, Secretary Rajan Bhattarai in Kathmandu, Secretary Khagaraj Adhikari in Gandaki, Secretary Padma Aryal in Lumbini, Secretary Yamalal Kandel in Karnali and leader Ganesh Thagunna in Sudurpaschim are the coordinators.

The meeting has given the responsibility of the organization department in-charge to Secretary Bhanubhakta Dhakal. Similarly, the meeting has also decided to mobilize central members in 77 districts by focusing on geography. ‘The meeting has directed the office bearers and central members to focus on the election,’ said Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta, ‘Future responsibilities will be assigned based on the election role.’

Secretary Rajan Bhattarai accused the government of failing to create an environment for the election, citing the precarious security situation. However, he said that the UML has moved forward according to its election program and is preparing for the election. ‘We are going to the election. Now we have started preparing for the election. However, we have maintained the issue of restoring the parliament to bring the current politics on the right track,’ he said, ‘But security challenges have been seen in Birgunj and other areas. The government has not been able to create an environment. We must create an environment for the election.’

In the meeting, Chairman Oli had accused the government of still not creating an environment for the election. ‘The government and foreign powers themselves are conspiring to postpone the election and hold it in different phases,’ Oli said in the meeting. Although the demand for the restoration of the House of Representatives is the main one, Oli’s instructions were to start preparing for the election when the election is held.
