Kulman Ghising, who resigned from his ministerial post, has said that self-respect is more important than a chair.

Organizing a press conference at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, he claimed that this is the reason he resigned from the post. ‘I believe that there is a greater value than the post, the principle,’ Ghising said, ‘Self-respect is above the chair and the people are bigger than the government.’

He also claimed that the decision to resign was not an attempt to run away or shirk responsibility. ‘My decision to resign is neither a decision to run away, nor an attempt to shirk responsibility. This is a continuation of my self-respect, ethics, principles and commitment to the people,’ Ghising said.

He added, ‘I consider it my duty to stand by the country and the people, not only while in office, but also while out of office.’
