Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has alleged that the National Assembly candidate list has been divided to make the leader's pocket man.

Speaking to media persons at the party office in Sanepa on Wednesday, he alleged that the alliance between the Congress and the CPN-UML was based on the personal interests of the leaders. He said that the names were recommended by dividing the clusters to make people with very personal relations between the top leaders of the two parties. Thapa accused the UML of taking clusters to choose which community and which leader in which place, while the Congress took clusters to choose people from the leader's pocket, not from the party.

Stating that the names of three of the nine candidates proposed by the Congress for the National Assembly were not recommended by any lower-level committee, he said that this was an insult not only to the parliamentary board and central committee but also to the process of recommending district and regional committees.

Thapa said that the essence of inclusiveness was not taken into account in the candidate selection process and not one of the nine proposed candidates was from the tribal community. He has a complaint. He alleged that when there was an opportunity to nominate a qualified person from the Muslim community, he was deliberately left out. Thapa has also raised questions about the justification of the decision to align with the UML in the National Assembly.
