UML recommends names of Bishnu Poudel in Rupandehi-2 and Khimlal Bhattarai in Rupandehi-5

What you should know

UML Vice-Chairman Bishnu Prasad Poudel has been single-nominated as a candidate for the House of Representatives from Rupandehi-2. Khimlal Bhattarai's name has also been single-nominated as a candidate from Rupandehi-5.

UML Rupandehi-2 Regional Co-Coordinator Rajendra Dhakal said that the name of party Vice President and former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel was recommended as a single candidate at the regional committee meeting held on Sunday. Poudel has been a continuous candidate from this constituency since 2056 BS and has been winning continuously since 2064 BS.

He said that the decision was made unanimously after all the participants in the meeting expressed their desire to send him as a single candidate for the development of this constituency as he has been a minister, finance minister and deputy prime minister several times. Bhattarai, who was recommended as a single candidate from Constituency No. 5, resigned from his position as a member of the National Assembly and was recommended for the 2079 BS House of Representatives elections.

However, Bhattarai was deprived of being a candidate after Basudev Ghimire's name was recommended and his candidacy was registered at the election office before him. UML Rupandehi Publicity Department Chief Min Prasad Poudel said that Bhattarai's name was recommended as a single candidate for Rupandehi-5 at the regional meeting held on Sunday.

Similarly, 10 names have been proposed, including Rupandehi-3 Basudev Ghimire. In the 2079 elections, Ghimire was elected from Rupandehi-5. After he announced his departure from UML on social media a few days ago, the UML ranks were shaken. Later, he returned to UML with the support of his close associates. Vice-chairman Bishnu Poudel took the initiative to stop him from joining UML.

Ghimire had also become the mayor of Tilottama Municipality in Rupandehi-3. In the 2079 elections, he defeated Bharat Kumar Shah of the Nepali Congress by a margin of 9,702 votes in 5, which is considered a relatively weak area for UML. Ghimire is not participating in the ongoing candidate selection meeting. According to UML district member Uma Adhikari, who participated in the meeting, others have proposed the names of potential candidates on the floor rather than the aspirants.

She said that 10 names have been proposed, including Ghimire, former mayor of Siddharthanagar Hari Adhikari, All Nepal Women's Association provincial president Pampawati Khanal, former UML leader Rajendra Panthi and district vice-president Hitraj Panthi.
