Leaders have increased pressure on the party leadership, saying that a special general convention must be held in the Congress at any cost. While general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma have demanded a special general convention in the absence of a regular general convention, other leaders have also said that there is no alternative to a special general convention.
At a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, leaders in favor of the Congress special general convention said that a special general convention should be held on December 10 and 11.
'It is now clear that the Nepali Congress has no other option than a special general convention. A special general convention is a special legal right of the general convention delegates. It is not a matter of anyone's choice, it is not. If a democratic party like the Nepali Congress does not follow the binding provisions of its statute, how can it have a moral basis to advocate for the constitution and the rule of law and go to the citizens?', the statement issued by the special general convention party reads, 'Therefore, no one can be above the party statute. It is the minimum responsibility of the party leadership to follow the binding provisions of the statute.'
Since the special general convention must be held within the time limit set by the statute, i.e., three months from the date of the demand, i.e., 2082 Paush 28, we, the special general convention demanders, have requested the center to hold a special general convention in accordance with Article 17 (2) of the statute on the following Paush 27-28, within the limits of the statute.
It has been urged to accept the special general convention as an opportunity to maintain the unity of the party and to become accountable to the people while preserving the party's internal democracy, without considering it as a victory or defeat for anyone.
