25 central members of the Nepali Congress have drawn the attention of President Sher Bahadur Deuba to the need to postpone the special general convention.
After General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma called for a special general convention by postponing the regular general convention, the leaders met President Deuba on Friday morning and demanded that he stop it, saying that the special general convention would lead to party division. During the meeting, President Deuba said that he did not want the party to split.
Central member Dila Sangraula, who was involved in the meeting, informed that President Deuba had said that he was not in favor of party division.
'We should stop the special general convention. Otherwise, we have drawn the attention of the President that the party may end up splitting,' she said. 'He also expressed the opinion that the path of division is not right. We have suggested that a regular general convention can resolve this dispute.'
According to her, the group is also preparing to hold discussions with General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma today (Friday).
